The venue was renovated because of safety concerns during a potential earthquake. It hosted the first-ever Turkish top-flight football league match in 1959. The stadium is named after Mustafa Denizli. He played numerous matches for Altay. Mustafa Denizli played several matches for Galatasaray and the national football team of Türkiye. Later, Mustafa Denizli became the manager of Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray. He won the Turkish top-flight football league with the three clubs. Mustafa Denizli became the manager of Altay in 2021. Altay and Altınordu use the stadium named Alsancak Mustafa Denizli Stadyumu for home games.
