The construction of the venue started in 2010. It opened as the largest stadium by capacity in Singapore. The National Stadium has a retractable roof and it is known as a venue for several events, like athletics, concerts, football and rugby union. The stadium’s first sell-out crowd was set on 14 October 2014, when the national football team of Japan played against Brazil. Mariah Carey performed the first-ever concert at the stadium on 24 October 2014. On 23 November 2014, the national football team of Singapore played their first match at the National Stadium. They lost the game against Thailand. Daniel Mark Bennett is one of the former players of the national football team of Singapore. He became the most-capped player of Singapore.
