The venue was named MRSOOL Park before it became Al-Awwal Park. It hosted the first edition of the Maradona Cup in 2021. The Maradona Cup is named after Diego Armando Maradona, an Argentine football legend. The Argentine football side Boca Juniors won the Maradona Cup after beating the Spanish side FC Barcelona in a penalty shoot-out. The Boca Juniors and FC Barcelona, both former clubs of Maradona, won several world championship titles. FC Barcelona became the second sports club with 100 million followers on its main social media page.
Al-Nassr Football Club, one of the first Asian sports clubs with 10 million followers on its main social media page, use the stadium named Al-Awwal Park for home games. The club was founded in 1955. They won the Saudi top-flight football league various times. Al-Nassr FC were crowned Saudi football champions in 1975 for the first time in their history.
