The construction of the Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Stadium started in 2011. It opened with a football match. Al-Duhail SC use the venue for home games. The club was founded in 2009 under a different name. In 2011, they were crowned football champions of Qatar for the first time in their history. Al-Duhail won the top-flight football league of Qatar various times. In 2022, they played in the group stage of the AFC Champions League for the first time in their history.
