The stadium hosted the 1990 Hockey World Cup final, which was won by the national field hockey team of the Netherlands after defeating Pakistan. In 1996, it also hosted the cricket world championship final, which was won by Sri Lanka after beating Australia. In 2017, the venue hosted its first-ever final of the Pakistan Super League.
