Extra stadium info – Jaber al-Ahmad International Stadium
The construction of the venue, which has an athletics track, started in 2006. It opened as the largest stadium by capacity in Kuwait. The stadium is named after Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah, a former emir of Kuwait. He was born in 1926 in Kuwait. Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah became the emir of Kuwait in 1977. He was the emir of Kuwait until his death in 2006. In 2010, problems started to occur which led to closing the stadium in 2011. Renovation works started in 2014. The renovation works ended in 2015. The Jaber al-Ahmad International Stadium hosted numerous Kuwaiti top-flight football league matches.
The Arabian Gulf Cup
In 2017, the Jaber al-Ahmad International Stadium hosted its first game for the Arabian Gulf Cup. A crowd of 59,000 showed up for the match between the national football teams of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The match ended in a victory for Saudi Arabia. Kuwait scored once in the game and Saudi Arabia scored twice in the game. Salman Mohammed al-Moasher, who was born in Saudi Arabia, scored the first Arabian Gulf Cup goal at the Jaber al-Ahmad International Stadium. Mukhtar Omar Othman Fallatah scored the second Arabian Gulf Cup goal at the venue. He was also born in Saudi Arabia. Abdullah Salem al-Buraiki, who was born in Kuwait, scored the third Arabian Gulf Cup goal at the Jaber al-Ahmad International Stadium.

The national football team of Kuwait played numerous games at the Jaber al-Ahmad International Stadium. In 1980, they won the Asian championship for national football teams for the first time in their history after defeating Korea in Kuwait. The national football team of Kuwait played their first-ever FIFA World Cup match in 1982. They finished fourth place in the group stage of the 1982 FIFA World Cup.
