The construction of the Meiji Jingu Stadium started in 1925. The stadium is known as the home of the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, one of the major baseball clubs from Japan. They won the Japan Series various times. The Tokyo Yakult Swallows won the Japan Series in 1978 for the first time in their history. The 1978 Japan Series consisted of seven matches. The first of those seven matches took place in the city of Tokyo in front of 34,000 spectators. The Tokyo Yakult Swallows lost the game. They won their second Japan Series title in 1993. The Tokyo Yakult Swallows won three Japan Series titles in the 1990s.
