The stadium is also known as the Hiroshima Big Arch. It hosted the 1992 AFC Asian Cup final, which was won by the national football team of Japan after defeating Saudi Arabia 1-0. Sanfrecce Hiroshima played numerous home matches at the venue named EDION Stadium Hiroshima. In 2012, they were crowned Japanese football champions for the first time in their history.
