The Bloomfield Stadium, which is also sometimes used for concerts, opened with a football match. It is among the main sports venues in Israel. The national football team of Israel played their first game at the Bloomfield Stadium on 29 May 1964. They won the Asian championship match against India 2-0. Mordechai Spiegler and Yohai Aharoni both scored for Israel in the game. The second Asian football championship game at the Bloomfield Stadium was won by the national football team of India. Israel won the Asian championship for national football teams in 1964. The national football team of India finished as vice-champions in the continental football tournament.

Bnei Yehuda, Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Maccabi Tel-Aviv use the venue named Bloomfield Stadium for home matches. Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Maccabi Tel-Aviv won various top-flight football league titles before Bnei Yehuda won their first top-flight league title in 1990. In 2014, Maccabi Tel-Aviv became the first Israeli football club with 20 top-flight football league titles. The club drew an average home attendance of 12,000 in that domestic league season.
The Asian championship for football clubs
On 19 December 1967, Hapoel Tel-Aviv faced Selangor from Malaysia in the final of the first-ever edition of the Asian championship for football clubs. Hapoel Tel-Aviv won the final 2-1. The Asian championship game took place in the Thai city of Bangkok in front of a crowd of 12,000. Maccabi Tel-Aviv played their first final of the Asian championship for football clubs on 30 January 1969. They won the final, which took place in Bangkok. It was the second final of the Asian championship for football clubs. In 1971, Maccabi Tel-Aviv became the first football club from Israel with two continental championship titles.
