The stadium, which is located on the island of Java, is also used for athletics. It was inaugurated by Suharto, a former president of Indonesia. He was born in 1921. Suharto died in 2008 at the age of 86. Persis, nicknamed Laskar Sambernyawa, use the stadium named Stadion Manahan for home games. The club was founded in 1923 under a different name. They were crowned Indonesian football champions several times.

On 13 November 2023, the stadium hosted two more games for the tournament. Spain won the first one after beating Mali 1-0. Later that day, Uzbekistan faced Canada at the venue named Stadion Manahan. Uzbekistan won the FIFA U-17 World Cup match 3-0.

On 28 November 2023, Germany reached the final of the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup after beating the Argentine Republic at the venue named Stadion Manahan.
