The venue, which is also known as the Marina Arena, has an athletics track. Chennaiyin Football Club was founded in 2014. In 2015, they won the Indian Super League for the first time in their history after beating FC Goa. Chennaiyin FC, nicknamed Marina Machans, drew an average home attendance of 22,000 in that ISL season. In 2018, they won the Indian Super League for the second time in their history.
