Extra stadium info – Tianjin Olympic Centre Stadium
The construction of the venue, which is also used for athletics and concerts, started in 2003. The outside of the stadium was designed to resemble a drop of water. It hosted FIFA Women’s World Cup matches in 2007. The first FIFA Women’s World Cup match at the Tianjin Olympic Centre Stadium was won by Sweden after beating the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in front of 33,000 spectators. China won the second FIFA Women’s World Cup game at the venue after defeating New Zealand 2-0. 55,000 people attended the game. Li Jie scored the first goal of the match and Xie Caixia scored the second goal of the match.
Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo
In 2011, the world-famous Spanish side Real Madrid visited the venue for a football match. Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, the first man with 100 million followers on his main social media page, also played in that match. He was born in Madeira in 1985. He played professional football for the Portuguese side Sporting Clube de Portugal and the English side Manchester United before he won world championship titles with Real Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo also played professional football for Juventus from the Italian Republic before he signed with Al-Nassr from Saudi Arabia in 2022.

Tianjin Jinmen Tiger Football Club, one of the first Chinese sports clubs with 1 million followers on its main social media page, played numerous home games the Tianjin Olympic Centre Stadium. It became one of the most valuable sports clubs from China. They won the Chinese top-flight football league several times. The football club was known as Tianjin TEDA. In 1999, they drew an average home attendance of 13,000 in their first-ever top-flight league season under the name Tianjin TEDA.
