The construction of the football stadium started in 2002. It opened as the largest sports venue by capacity in Tianjin. The TEDA Football Stadium is located in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area. Tianjin Jinmen Tiger Football Club use the venue for home games. The football club became one of the most valuable sports clubs from the People’s Republic of China. Tianjin Jinmen Tiger Football Club became the first sports club from Tianjin with 1 million followers on its main social media page. In 2004, they drew an average home attendance of 13,000 in their first Chinese top-flight football league season at the TEDA Football Stadium.
