Extra stadium info – Shenyang Olympic Sports Centre Stadium
The Shenyang Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, which is also used for athletics and concerts, opened as the largest sports venue by capacity in Liaoning. It is nicknamed Crystal Crown. The stadium hosted football matches for the Games of the Olympiad in 2008. That year, the football games of the Games of the Olympiad took place at six Chinese stadiums. The games took place in Beijing, Qinhuangdao, Shanghai, Shenyang and Tianjin.
The women’s tournament
The first women’s Olympic football match at the Shenyang Olympic Sports Centre Stadium took place on 6 August 2008. The second men’s Olympic football game at the venue named Shenyang Olympic Sports Centre Stadium was a game between China and New Zealand. 41,000 fans showed up for the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Cameroon, Japan and the Netherlands also played Olympic football at the venue during the Games of the Olympiad in 2008.
