The arena, which hosted various indoor American football matches, was used for the 2011 Summer Universiade. In 2015, it hosted the first-ever match between two National Basketball Association clubs in Shenzhen, when the Charlotte Hornets faced the Los Angeles Clippers. The Charlotte Hornets are from North Carolina and the Los Angeles Clippers are from California.
