The venue opened as the Dinamo Stadium. Ararat was founded in 1935 and Pyunik was founded in 1992. Pyunik became the first football club from Armenia with 10 top division titles. Henrikh Mkhitaryan started his professional football career with Pyunik. He played numerous matches for the national football team of Armenia. The world famous football club Manchester United Football Club won their first-ever UEFA Europa League final in 2017. Mkhitaryan scored the second goal of the final for Manchester United.
