Extra stadium info – Mandela National Stadium
The stadium, which has an athletics track, opened with a concert of Lucky Philip Dube. It became the largest sports venue by capacity in Uganda. The stadium is named after the first president of South Africa. The venue was named Namboole National Stadium before it became the Mandela National Stadium. The national football team of Uganda, also known as The Cranes, played numerous home games at the stadium. In 1962, they played their first match at the African championship for national football teams. The Cranes lost the game, which took place in Ethiopia.
