The stadium is named after the third president of Namibia. The national rugby union team of Namibia use the venue for home matches. They played their first-ever Rugby World Cup matches in 1999. Theuns Andries Willem Kotzé is one of the former players of the national rugby union team of Namibia. He became the top scorer of the team.
