The Alexandria Stadium is among the main sports venues in the city of Alexandria. It hosted various football matches for the Africa Cup of Nations. The first-ever knockout stage match of the competition at the Alexandria Stadium was won by Cameroon after beating the Côte d’Ivoire 1-0. In 2019, Nigeria won the second one after defeating Cameroon 3-2.

In 1922, Al-Ittihad Alexandria played in the first-ever Egyptian cup final. They lost the game against Zamalek, the second Egyptian sports club with 1 million followers on its main social media page.
