In 2012, a disaster took place at the Al-Masry Club Stadium, when 72 people died during a football riot following a match between Al-Masry and Al-Ahly. A stadium ban followed. Years later, Al-Masry returned to the venue. The club was founded in 1920. Ferenc Purczeld, also known as Ferenc Puskás, managed Al-Masry between 1979 and 1982. The Hungarian football legend, who played numerous matches for the world famous Spanish side Real Madrid, is widely regarded as one of the best football players ever. He managed football clubs from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania and South America.
