The venue hosted several football matches for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. Gervais Yao Kouassi, commonly known as Gervinho, scored the first Africa Cup of Nations goal at the stadium on 15 January 2010. He scored the goal for the national football team of the Côte d’Ivoire against Ghana in front of a crowd of 23,000. Siaka Tiéné and Didier Yves Drogba Tébily also scored for the Côte d’Ivoire that day. Asamoah Gyan scored the only goal for Ghana on 15 January 2010. Didier Yves Drogba Tébily and Asamoah Gyan became two of the first football players from Africa who scored at least 50 goals for a national football team.
