Associação Chapecoense de Futebol, one of the first sports clubs from Brazil with 1 million followers on its main social media page, was founded in 1973. In 2016, Chapecoense and the Colombian side Atlético Nacional reached the final of the Copa Sudamericana. A disaster occured when the plane with the squad of Chapecoense on board crashed in Colombia. Only a few players survived the crash. Following the crash, Atlético Nacional made a request that Chapecoense be awarded the Copa Sudamericana title.
