The venue, nicknamed The House that Howard Built, is owned by the Florida Atlantic University. It opened in 2011 with an American football match between the Florida Atlantic Owls and the WKU Hilltoppers. The FAU Stadium hosted numerous matches of the Florida Launch, a defunct field lacrosse club. In 2014, the venue hosted its first-ever match of the national football team of the United States. The game between the United States and Honduras ended in a 1-1 draw. 14,000 people attended the match.
