The construction of the AESSEAL New York Stadium started in 2011 and its construction costs were £20 million. The venue became the home of Rotherham United Football Club, also known as The Millers, in 2012. The club was founded in 1925. On 21 July 2012, they won their first game at the football stadium. The match between Rotherham United and Barnsley FC ended in a 2-1 victory for the home side. The Millers also won their first league game at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
