Football club Cambuur was founded in 1964. In 1992, they played their first-ever Dutch top-flight football league match. Cambuur finished 14th place in that Dutch top-flight football league season. They gathered 25 points in 34 league games during that football season. Six of those 34 games ended in a victory for Cambuur. 13 of those 34 games ended in a draw. In 1994, Cambuur were relegated to the second level of Dutch football for the first time in their history. They returned to the highest level of Dutch football in 1998.
