The venue opened with a football match between KAA Gent, one of the first Belgian sports teams with 100,000 followers on its main social media page, and the German football side VfB Stuttgart. KAA Gent won the Belgian top division in 2015 for the first time in their history. The same year, they were one of the 32 UEFA Champions League participants. KAA Gent drew an average home attendance of 19,000 in four matches in that UEFA Champions League season. In the group stage, they faced Olympique lyonnais, Valencia CF and Zenit. Later, the German side VfL Wolfsburg eliminated them from the UEFA Champions League.
