The construction of the stadium, which is among the main sports venues in Malaysia, started in 1990. It is used for several events, like athletics, concerts and football. Several world famous football clubs played at the stadium. It opened with a football match between Selangor Football Club and the Scottish side Dundee United Football Club. Dundee United won the Scottish top-flight football league in 1983 for the first time in their history. They won the title after beating their rivals Dundee Football Club 2-1 in front of 29,000 fans.
KBS Selangor
Kelab Bola Sepak Selangor was founded in 1936. They won the top-flight football league of Malaysia various times. In 1984, KBS Selangor were crowned Malaysian football champions for the first time in their history. In 1967, they lost their first-ever final of the Asian championship for football clubs. Hapoel Tel-Aviv won the game, which was played in Thailand in front of 12,000 spectators, 2-1. Hapoel Tel-Aviv became the first football club from Israel with a continental championship title, followed by rivals Maccabi Tel-Aviv in 1969.
