The construction of the Changwon Football Centre Stadium started in 2007. In 2006, Gyeongnam Football Club played their first-ever Korean top-flight football league match. 20,000 people attended the game in which Gyeongnam FC faced Jeju United. The match in Changwon ended in a 0-0 draw.
