The stadium was known as the Chiba Soga Football Stadium. On 29 May 2009, the venue hosted its first match between two national football teams. The game between Belgium and Chile ended in a 1-1 draw. Kevin Roelandts scored the first goal of the game. He made his debut for the national football team of Belgium in the match. Gary Alexis Medel Soto scored the second goal of the game. He won the Copa América twice with the national football team of Chile.

JEF United Ichihara Chiba moved to the Fukuda Denshi Arena in 2005. The club was founded in 1946 under a different name. In 1976, they were crowned Japanese football champions for the first time in their history. The club which is currently known as JEF United won 11 of the 18 domestic league games during that football season. Four of those 18 matches ended in a draw. The club which is currently known as JEF United won their first-ever Japanese super cup on 10 April 1977. They won the title after beating the club which is currently known as Cerezo Osaka 3-2. The super cup game took place in the city of Tokyo.
