The Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, which has an athletics track, opened as one of the largest sports venues by capacity in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It opened with a football match. In 2019, the stadium hosted a political event involving Muhammadu Buhari, who became the president of Nigeria in 2015. Tens of thousands of people attended the event, which resulted in a deadly stampede.
